Notes

Frank Oldrieve reported in 1927 that “Some fifty miles away from Maseno is a Government station called Kakamega, and there is a small leper work being carried on there by the Government Doctor. We motored to see it and found two small huts and two larger ones in which some fifty lepers were living. The conditions are not good and it is suggested that when the new leper village is formed at Maseno this one should be closed, and it is hoped that the lepers will move to the new place.” (Frank Oldrieve, British Empire Leprosy Relief Association, Secretary’s Report No 5, “Report on Tour in Kenya Colony and Protectorate”, 1927).
