The bones from the cemetery of the hospital of St James and St Mary Magdalene are held at the Calvin Wells Laboratory in Bradford and are a valuable reference collection for researchers interested in studying the effects of leprosy on the skeleton. The cemetery itself is located on Stane Street, 1/2 mile north-east of the old walled town of Chichester. The importance of the cemetery has been documented in Lee F and Magilton J (1989) The Hospital of St.James and St. Mary Magdalene – a case study. World Archaeology 21 (2) : 273-82
