Rudolph L Mayer, MD (1895-1962) was a French physician and a world authority on antihistamines and allergies. In 1946, with Dr. Huttrer, he discovered pyribenzamine for the relief of hayfever sufferers. In 1958, with a team at Ciba Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey, (where he worked from 1943 to 1960,) he discovered SU-1906 (Ciba 1906) a compound widely used in the treatment of leprosy. From 1960 to 1962 was a research microbiologist at LWM and engaged in electron microscope studies at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. During his lifetime he published more than 250 scientific papers dealing with allergies, tuberculosis and leprosy.
