Notes

Most of the books of the library of the Suriname Museum derive from the former Colonial Library (shut down in 1957). It contains many older publications on leprosy, some brochures on leprosy in the first half of the twentieth century, a 267 page handwitten report by K. Ooijkaas on the leprosarium Batavia dating to 1853, a typed report of the state leprosarium, Groot-Chatillon, by F P Schuitemaker in 1915, journal articles in De West-Indische Gids (The West-Indies Guide) and the Suriname medical student’s journal De Stethoscoop on leprosy, and many more. The library cooperates with 25 other libraries in Suriname in the Nationale Database Suriname [National Data-bank Suriname]. Searches are available at http://www.nationallibrary.sr
