The Esther Stichting is a current home for people who have been affected by Hansen’s disease. After the leprosaria Groot-Chatillon, St. Gerardus Majella and Bethesda were closed in the 1960s and 1970s, the government, in cooperation with charity organisations, organised this home for former leprosy patients. At the moment there are still many there who can tell about the daily life in the three Surinamese leprosaria. There is only a small archive. A dossier on the architectural planning of the Esther Stichting in the 1970s and 1980s has fortunately survived.
